Once you know the cause of your problem, the repair should be clear. The troubleshooting that you have done may have suggested a solution that you feel confident to try.

Basic system settings or minor software fixes can be attempted if the instructions for the fix are clear or you know what to do yourself.

In general, you should be very careful about repairs that require changing the registry. Unless you are sure about what you are doing, you should not attempt it.

If you decide to do a registry repair, backup the registry first. Here are 3 ways to back it up.

If you need to install any new computer drivers, back up first and do it if the instructions are clear and donít raise any concerns. In the worst case, you can generally go back to your former state by doing a Windows system restore or for (Vista) or revert to a prior version of the driver.

Any changes to the Bios (the logic controlling your motherboard) should be done with extreme care if you feel up to it.

Replacing or adding memory or changing hardware can be done without too much difficulty by those with a bent for do it yourself.

Changing the motherboard (the main board on which all the computerís main components and hardware control resides) is something best left to experts.
